Consult

Yesterday, I had my follow-up consult with Dr. F to discuss the results of the egg retrieval and the news was not good. I have a low egg reserve. The average egg retrieval (with stimulation) is 11, so my numbers are "abnormal" -- definitely not a word you want to hear from a fertility specialist. According to Dr. F they had me on a pretty aggressive medication protocol, so the numbers were very disappointing. Plus, the two embryos that did make it were frozen on day 3 which is not as ideal as day 5, but Dr. F was concerned that they would not make it any longer in the lab. These two embryos only have a 30% chance of pregnancy. If I don't have enough eggs, then I can't do surrogacy. I can't catch a break. The odds are stacked against me, but as my bff pointed out to me today, at least I now know what I'm up against. Dr. F recommended moving forward with a second egg retrieval and then re-evaluate after.

Embies Frozen

7 eggs retrieved, but only 2 eggs fertilized and were frozen. These are very disappointing numbers. I'm gonna do another cycle but with a different medication protocol. I'm not sure when that will be though, I've gotta figure out this moving thing first. You see, it would be ten times easier to just stay in town and do another egg retrieval instead of moving out of state right away. It's just putting my moving plans off a few months, and it means I have to move twice, which I have done before. Ugh, seriously, why can't anything be easy?

Retrieval Time

I took the Ovidrel shot tonight (to make me ovulate), so I'm officially 37 hours away from egg retrieval. I am so glad to stop all the shots and get off the crazy hormone train, they are not foolin' around, these drugs are potent! Oh, and I wanted to say that I definitely have a new respect for my diabetic friends who have to inject themselves with medicine everyday.

Under Contract & Injectable Meds

OMG!! After only 11 days on the market I got a great offer for my home and I accepted! I still have to get through the inspection and appraisal, but I have a really good feeling about it. It is so exciting, I could be living in Alaska before Thanksgiving!!!

On the fertility front, I am in the middle of several weeks worth of injectable meds to prepare me for the egg retrieval. All these meds make me feel lousy, I'm experiencing hot flashes, headaches and extreme tiredness. Other than that I'm peachy! LOL

Egg Retrieval & The Big Move

Since it has only been 3 months since my myomectomy I can't try to get pregnant again just yet, but I can however freeze my eggs so when I am given the green light then I'll be ready to go. To make my chances of fertilization greater, I will need as many eggs as possible retrieved so I have been prescribed several medications some of which I will have to inject everyday to help stimulate follicle development. While I am not afraid of needles, I am NOT comfortable giving myself a shot or in this case more than one shot a day everyday for several weeks so we shall see.

In other news, I'm planning on moving to Alaska to be closer to my brother & sister-in-law! I'm really excited about the move, with everything that has happened this year I desperately need a fresh start. I don't have a move date yet because I have to sell my house first. I could go ahead and move to Alaska while I'm waiting for my house to sell but I really don't want to pay both my mortgage and rent on an apartment. Unfortunately I can't live with my brother because both him & his wife are seriously allergic to cats so I would have to rent a place. I'm still very much enjoying my sabbatical, I knew I needed this time off to take care of myself but I didn't really know how much of a toll it had all taken on me. Anyways, my house should be ready to go on the market next week so let's hope it sells fast so I can get going already! And if you're wondering...yes, this move will affect my home study as I will have to pay to have it transferred and updated (again), oh and I have to research and find a new agency in Alaska.
